UK commercial solar is one of the most regulated areas of the construction industry. Every install we deliver complies with — and is certified against — a stack of trade body, electrical, building regulation, and quality management standards. Below is the complete certification stack and what each accreditation means for you as a buyer.

MCS — Microgeneration Certification Scheme

What it is: MCS is the UK industry standard for renewable technology installation. MCS certification is required for any solar PV system to access the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) export tariffs. It is the single most important accreditation in UK solar.

What you get: Every system we install carries an MCS Installation Certificate. The certificate evidences design and installation compliance with MCS 005 (PV) and MIS 3002 (installation method). Without MCS, you cannot register for SEG export payments.

NICEIC — National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting

What it is: NICEIC is the UK's largest electrical contracting accreditation body. NICEIC-approved contractors are independently audited annually for compliance with BS 7671 (Wiring Regulations) and BS EN 62446 (Solar PV).

What you get: Every electrical installation we make is signed off by an NICEIC-approved electrician. NICEIC certification covers the AC and DC sides of the solar PV system, including grid connection, isolation, earthing, and surge protection.

RECC — Renewable Energy Consumer Code

What it is: RECC is the consumer protection body for renewable energy installations. RECC membership commits us to the RECC Code of Practice, including transparent pricing, written quotations, deposit protection, and dispute resolution.

What you get: A buyer-protection layer above standard contract law — including independent dispute resolution if anything goes wrong, and deposit protection to prevent loss of deposits.

TrustMark

What it is: TrustMark is the UK government-endorsed quality scheme for trade contractors. It covers customer service, technical competence, and trading standards.

What you get: Government-backed verification of trading practices, customer service standards, and technical competence.

ISO 9001 — Quality Management System

What it is: ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management systems. Certification requires documented processes, internal audit cycles, customer feedback management, and continuous improvement.

What you get: Documented quality processes that are independently audited every year. ISO 9001 evidences that the install you receive is delivered to the same standard as every other install we make.

ISO 14001 — Environmental Management

What it is: ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems — covering waste, water, energy, emissions, and supply chain.

What you get: Audited environmental management practices, supporting your business's own SECR / ESG / Scope 3 supplier reporting.

CHAS Elite — Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme

What it is: CHAS Elite is the highest tier of the CHAS contractor health-and-safety pre-qualification scheme. CHAS Elite members are audited against PAS 91 plus enhanced criteria.

What you get: Independent verification of our health-and-safety policies, RAMS, training, accident records, and supply-chain management. CHAS Elite is required by many public-sector and large corporate buyers as a procurement pre-qualification.

Cyber Essentials Plus

What it is: The UK government cyber-security standard, with the Plus tier requiring independent technical verification.

What you get: Verified protection of your project data, design files, meter data, and commercial information against the most common cyber threats. Required for many public-sector contracts.

SafeContractor

What it is: SafeContractor is a leading H&S accreditation scheme used widely as a procurement pre-qualification across UK commercial property.

What you get: Pre-qualified contractor status across SafeContractor's 30,000+ buyer organisations, simplifying procurement onboarding.

What This Means in Practice

For you as the buyer:

  • Every install is MCS certified, enabling SEG export tariff registration.
  • Electrical work is NICEIC-signed and BS 7671 compliant.
  • You are protected by RECC and TrustMark consumer codes.
  • Quality delivery is ISO 9001 audited.
  • Environmental impact is ISO 14001 managed.
  • Health and safety is CHAS Elite verified.
  • Cyber security is Cyber Essentials Plus verified.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does MCS certification matter for commercial solar?

MCS Installation Certificate is required to register a solar PV system for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) — the export tariff scheme paying for surplus electricity sold to the grid. Without MCS, you cannot claim SEG payments.

Is RECC consumer protection necessary for commercial buyers?

RECC is consumer-protection focused but its disciplines (transparent pricing, written contracts, deposit protection) are valuable to commercial buyers. RECC membership means we operate to the same standards across consumer and commercial contracts.

What's the difference between CHAS and CHAS Elite?

Standard CHAS verifies health-and-safety pre-qualification under PAS 91. CHAS Elite adds enhanced criteria around training, accident records, supply-chain management, and audit frequency.

Are these certifications free to maintain?

No — every certification carries annual fees, audit time, and ongoing compliance work. We pass none of this cost through to project pricing; it's part of being a credible commercial contractor.

Do I need to specify these accreditations in my procurement?

If you specify 'MCS-certified installer' in your procurement, you ensure SEG eligibility. Public-sector and large corporate procurements typically also require CHAS, Cyber Essentials Plus, and ISO 9001.

Our Commercial Solar Accreditations and Quality Standards

Our MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) certification is the core quality mark for all our commercial solar installations. MCS is the UK government-recognised certification scheme for microgeneration technologies up to 50kW, and our MCS installer number is available on request and verifiable on the MCS database. All installations we complete receive a full MCS installation certificate — the document required to access Smart Export Guarantee payments, claim Annual Investment Allowance correctly and satisfy insurance requirements.

In addition to MCS, our team holds relevant electrical competency certifications for commercial solar work: NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting) registration, which confirms our electrical installation work is assessed by a leading independent electrical safety body; NAPIT membership; BS 7671 18th edition design and installation qualification for all senior electricians; and IPAF and PASMA working at height certifications for all installation operatives. Our surveyors hold CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessor accreditation. Contact us to request copies of our current accreditation certificates for procurement due diligence.
